Desktop App Permissions
Two Permissions Required
The Grafite desktop app captures audio from your meetings so it can transcribe and summarize them automatically. To do this, macOS requires two permissions:
Microphone
Records your voice so Grafite can transcribe what you say during meetings. This is the standard macOS microphone permission that any recording app needs.
System Audio
Captures other participants' audio from your meeting apps (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, etc.). Grafite uses macOS's Core Audio system to tap into meeting audio — we only capture audio, never your screen.
Audio only. Grafite uses Apple's Core Audio Process Tap to record system audio. This is the privacy-friendly path that only requests "System Audio Recording" permission — no screen access is needed or requested.
How to Grant Permissions
- 1
Click "Grant Permissions" in the Grafite app. This will open macOS System Settings automatically.
- 2
Find "Grafite" in the list and toggle the switch to enable it. You may need to do this for both Microphone and System Audio Recording.
- 3
Restart Grafite after granting permissions. macOS requires an app restart for permission changes to take effect.
Grafite Not Listed?
If Grafite doesn't appear in System Settings under Microphone or System Audio Recording, try these steps:
- 1. Quit Grafite completely (right-click the menu bar icon and choose "Quit")
- 2. Open Grafite again from your Applications folder
- 3. Click "Grant Permissions" when prompted — the system should now show the native permission dialog
If the issue persists, you can manually add Grafite by clicking the + button in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone (or System Audio Recording), then navigate to your Applications folder and select Grafite.
Privacy & Security
Grafite takes your privacy seriously:
- • Audio is only captured during active recordings that you start
- • Screen contents are never captured — only audio from system apps
- • Recordings are processed securely and you maintain full control over your data
- • You can revoke permissions at any time through macOS System Settings
